SPIRIT LEVEL BUBBLE The Spirit Level can be used to measure to a specific point on an unlevel Manhole rim or when you only have room enough for one of the removable square rods. It is not required for normal use.

HOW TO USE
The Invertometer™ has two settings which
make for an accurate distance measurement.
Fig 1 shows the correct setting for use with
a Range Pole .
Fig 2 shows the correct setting for
a Level Rod .
Put the level rod or range pole on the pipe
invert. Put the Invertometer™ on the rod and
grip them both with your right hand. Tilt the
rod as close to plumb as possible. Slide the
Invertometer™ down until the removable
square rods touch the Manhole rim. Take the
angle reading from the Angle Locater. Look
at the bottom of the Invertometer™ and take
the reading from the Level Rod (or mark the
Range Pole there). You may also grip tightly
and lift the rod and Invertometer™ up to
take the distance reading from a more
comfortable position. Then use the simple
Trigonometry formula (see Fig.3 on Home
Page) to figure the vertical distance down.
THE OTHER TOOL
There are other tools out there to measure these pipe inverts but they have many drawbacks. They will not work
with Range Poles and can cost over $200. They are basically metal bars that bolt perpendicularly onto the
bottom of a Level Rod and are intended to be used along with the Level. However, the Level Rod can only be
seen from one direction once the tool is attached, which means that you probably would need to make multiple
set-ups. Furthermore, with today's modern Instruments, many Companies don't even use the Level for Manhole
shots. We believe that it is faster and more efficient for the Crew Chief or Instrument Man to drive from
Manhole to Manhole and measure the distances down from the rims with The Invertometer™.
